Essential Functions
The communications specialist will contribute to the effective execution of internal communications associated with change management and organizational transformation efforts related to MyDay, a complex program designed to improve WashU's operational excellence and ability to make insight-driven decisions. Set to officially kick off in July, MyDay is an exciting, once-in-a-generation effort to replace the university's core administrative IT systems (human resource, finance, and student) and improve associated business processes. The multi-year effort will replace these systems with a single system (Workday) that will integrate the university's core administrative data in the cloud. The communications specialist, who will work as part of a team of communications and change management professionals, plays a central role in developing and implementing plans to create awareness, understanding, engagement, acceptance and adoption of the new system, as well as new ways of working.
1. **Communications Planning:**
* Contribute to the development of an end-to-end change management and associated communications strategy and associated plan in support of the MyDay program. Activities may include, but is not limited to, participating in brainstorm and ideation sessions, participating in stakeholder outreach, assisting in setting measurable objectives and associated methods of evaluation, and making recommendations regarding resource needs.
2. **Communications Implementation and Evaluation:**
* Implement day-to-day communications in support of components of the MyDay implementation. Ensure the right messages get to the right individuals at the right time by identifying and leveraging existing communications channels and recommending new channels if needed. Ensure communications are consistent in terms of messaging and visual branding. Proactively identify and elevate issues and concerns in a timely way.
3. **Content development and management:**
* Independently, and at times in collaboration with others, prepare communications (speeches, presentations, briefings, web content, articles, E-mail content, video scripts, progress updates, podcasts, etc.) for a variety of internal audiences and relevant communications channels. Review and edit content developed by other members of the MyDay team, as needed.
4. **Other Duties as Assigned.**
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with three years of relevant communications experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree with five or more years of internal communications experience and/or experience developing and executing communications in support of change management initiatives in large, complex environments.
* Higher education and/or IT experience is a plus, as is consulting/agency experience.
* A creative and strategic thinker who possesses a confident style, coupled with sensitivity, flexibility, and sense of humor. Good judgment, discretion, tact and diplomacy skills are a must.
* Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, matrix, and consensus-driven environment.
* A willingness and ability to embrace change and to adapt approaches in a timely way.
* Superior writing and editing skills, including the ability to translate technical topics into clear and compelling content for a range of audiences and channels.
* Strong attention to details and deadlines.
* Sensitivity to visual aesthetics, including the ability to work within established brand standards.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
* Experience with web content management systems, such as Word Press.
* Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications (e.g. InDesign and Photoshop) desired, but not required.
* High level of intellectual curiosity to gain thorough understanding of sometimes unfamiliar concepts.
* Experience in developing and executing targeted email campaigns.
* Experience with event planning and coordination.
* Experience with survey tools, specifically Qualtrics a plus.
Salary Range
The hiring range for this position is $20.36 - $25.94 per hour.
